Queen's Award Number 1: Queen's Representative Wing Commander Edna Partridge (Deputy Lieutenant for Hillingdon) presents Hayes company TMD Technologies Ltd with Queen's Award for Enterprise 2004 (International Trade Category).
In her address, Wing Commander Partridge explained that the Queen's award was the highest honour available to industry and was greatly sought after and valued - indeed only 11 companies had received the award in Greater London this year (in the International Trade Category). The company earned the award on the strength of overseas earnings of £18 million over the last three years; success being achieved by a careful, vigorous and persistent approach to marketing and the pursuit of a thorough understanding of the culture and practices of the countries concerned. On the occasion of TMD's Queen's Award presentation at the company's premises, Engineering Director Howard Smith shows Wing Commander Edna Partridge (Deputy Lieutenant for Hillingdon) and Councillor Jill Rhodes (Deputy Mayor for Hillingdon) a TWT ready for shipment - for a long range air traffic control radar application. The majority of TMD's sales have been made to Asia, the Americas and Europe, and to a lesser degree the Middle East and African Markets. In receiving the award Peter Butcher stressed that the award was a result of great dedication and hard work at all levels of the company over many years. "In particular we are very proud of this great achievement only 9 years since our MBO from THORN EMI plc". After the official presentation, our guests including the Wing Commander and the Deputy Mayor were taken on a factory tour by Engineering Director Howard Smith, where they were given an insight into the many fascinating and complex processes involved in the design and manufacture of microwave tubes and power supplies. Queen's Award Number 2: Ultra Low Noise "Free Range" power supply from TMD Technologies Ltd, wins Queen's Award for Enterprise (Innovation).
As a result of this new power supply, TMD recently won a major contract from the US company Thales Raytheon to supply radar transmitters for the Sentinel Radar, against strong competition from US suppliers. The end user - the US army has remarked "...the performance is so good we are dancing on the table!". TMD's new power supply has a noise figure of better than -140 dBc/Hz CW equivalent single sideband random noise and better than -80 dBc spurious noise. Current state of art prior to this innovation was typically -120 dBc/Hz random, thus TMD has achieved an improvement of better than 20 dB or a factor of 100 times! Peter Butcher, TMD's Chairman and Managing Director comments; "I am extremely proud of this Queen's Award for Innovation, following so closely after our first Queen's Award last year for International Trade. This marks another major milestone in the growth in our technology, which has resulted from many years of investment." TMD designs and manufactures specialised transmitters for radar and electronic warfare applications, power supplies and microwave tubes. It also produces a range of commercial amplifiers for EMC testing, medical and scientific applications. For further information please contact: |
